The youth community outreach program (Y-COP) is a multipurpose non-profit Municipal agency which provides recreational outlets, employment counseling, tutorial programming and social service assistance to the youth and young adults in the city of Mount Vernon.

The objective of this program is not only to divert youth from crime involvement by physically keeping them off the streets, but also by developing their interest in alternative activities. Thereby improving their skills in many areas which would lead to increased self-esteem. It is our belief that by developing a youths' physical and intellectual skills, by building pride and self-esteem, by keeping them away from the very hazards and temptations that are so destructive to this community, that we will reduce juvenile crime, and encourage our young to stay in school and to become useful members of a productive society, by building the belief in themselves that they can acheive any goal.
